Professor Tarek Sayed honoured by the Engineering Institute of Canada

Professor Tarek Sayed will be inducted as Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC) for his exceptional contributions to engineering in Canada.

World-renowned for his research on road safety analysis and evaluation, Sayed’s work on proactive road safety management is being applied in projects in several countries and is considered by many as the future of road safety analysis. The methods and techniques that he developed have received wide recognition and his expertise is sought out by industry and government organizations globally. He has a number of prestigious awards, including the appointment as a UBC Distinguished Scholar, the Award of Academic Merit from the Transportation Association of Canada, and the ITE Wilbur Smith Distinguished Transportation Educator Award. He is also Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering.

Along with his duties leading the transportation engineering group in his department, he is also currently Senior Editor of the Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, Director of the UBC Bureau of Intelligent Transportation Systems and Freight Security – Engineering.

In all, 18 fellows will be recognized—less than .01% of the membership–at the EIC annual awards banquet at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa on March 15, 2014.
