Civil Professor Dr. Jonathan Fannin honoured by the Engineering Institute of Canada

Friday, March 1, 2013 | By

UBC Civil Engineering professor Jonathan Fannin will be inducted as Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC) for his exceptional contributions to engineering.Fannin has compiled a body of experimental findings and related field observations that have contributed significantly to the state-of-the-art in geotechnical engineering as it relates to landslide risk management, designing with geosynthetics and seepage-induced erosion in earth dams.  His contributions to developments in each of these areas of engineering practice have received international recognition, garnered a number of awards for outstanding scholarship, and led to several distinguished visiting fellowships.  Fannin brings all of these experiences to his university teaching, and also to short courses for practising professionals, in a commitment to engineering education and life-long learning that has won him several awards for teaching excellence.

In all, 18 fellows will be recognized—less than .01% of the membership–at the EIC annual awards gala in Montreal on May 28, 2013.
