Engineering and Sustainability
Sustainability is considered a foundational concept in current professional engineering practice. Complex sustainability problems challenge engineers to apply both discipline-specific and broad sustainability knowledge while working in teams of people with different backgrounds, language and value sets. To be able to face these challenges, the UBC Civil Engineering program aims for student development of UBC’s graduating student sustainability attributes: holistic systems thinking, sustainability knowledge, disciplinary awareness and integration, and acting for positive change; as well as discipline-specific knowledge.
