Dr. Alex Sy
Alex has 40 years of diverse experience in geotechnical and earthquake engineering throughout Canada, the US, South America, and overseas. His experience includes site investigations, seismic hazard assessments, soft ground engineering, ground improvement, design and testing of pile foundations, embankment design, and seismic retrofit or upgrade of transportation infrastructures, water and wastewater facilities, water retention dams, and mine tailings dams. In addition, Alex also has extensive experience in in-situ testing, seismic and flow liquefaction analyses, and dynamic soil-structure interaction analyses of earth dams and bridges. Alex has provided forensic engineering and expert witness services for infrastructure failures involving dams, dykes, pipelines, highways, buildings and landslides. He currently serves on Independent Technical Review Boards on several major water supply projects and mine tailings storage facilities around the world. He has authored more than 50 technical papers on various aspects of geotechnical and geoseismic engineering.
