Biography:
Greg obtained his professional degrees in engineering (B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, British Columbia) and architecture (B.Arch., Montreal) before pursuing his M.Sc.A. (Montreal), completing research in the field of wind effects and snow drifting on buildings.
Since 1981 he has practiced architecture in the Vancouver area, first with a number of local firms, then as a principle in his own firm. He has taught at UBC as an adjunct professor since 2002, and following his joint appointment in the School of Architecture & Landscape Architecture and the Department of Civil Engineering in 2009, he has maintained a small involvement in his present firm Principle Architecture.
He is a member of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (MAIBC) and the Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of British Columbia (P.Eng.). He is also a Building Envelope Professional and LEED Accredited Professional.
Research Interests:
In support of his teaching, Greg has developed a number of teaching tools and techniques for the study of building environments, including architectural acoustics, natural lighting, solar control, psychrometry and radiant heat exchange.
He has a strong interest in graphical representation, and for a number of years has assisted Alfred Scott, the developer of WildTools CAD software, by providing the mathematical algorithms for specific tools related to axonometric drawing scaling, sun-path and shadow casting, and stair geometry calculations.
At the moment Greg is involved in the planning, curating and designing of an upcoming exhibition and publication on the work of Vancouver architect Daniel Evan White, jointly with UBC colleague Martin Lewis.
