opportunities
The Department of Civil Engineering offers opportunities for many of its graduate students to assist with
the Department’s teaching mission, through the award of graduate teaching assistantships. Teaching Assistant
and Marker positions are allocated each year in September and January, when the undergraduate student enrolments
have been finalized for the fall and winter terms, respectively. Graduate students who are new to the Department
are eligible to apply for a Teaching Assistant or Marker position that begins in the second-term (January to April).
NOTE: Since GTAs play a very important role in our undergraduate teaching process, all
prospective students who have not held a previous TA position are required to attend the
TA Workshop presented by the Faculty of Applied Science.
A workshop is also available at The Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology. For more information, on the Training Workshops, please contact Glenda Levins.
The rates of pay and the conditions of work for Teaching Assistant and Marker positions are described in the current collective agreement that has been approved by the University of British Columbia and CUPE 2278.
