Three dimensional structures were tested under
static, cyclic and dynamic (earthquake)
conditions. In cooperation with private
consultants, a large shaker facility was developed
in UBC Civil Engineering's Structures
Laboratory. This shaker is capable of supporting a
full-size structure (two-story house), with
horizontal input motion replicating the ground
motion of an earthquake.
The experimental data will serve as further
validation of the software PANEL. The following
photographs (click to enlarge) show a two-story
house on the shaker, ready for testing. Several
houses were tested, with different types of
construction details.
Work on this topic is continuing.
